Would you let your holiday rental to the Griswolds?
Following on from HomeAways “Hotel Hell Vacation” ad during the Super Bowl, which featured the Griswolds from the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” movies, and HomeAway’s plans to use them in their campaign – “rent a house for half the cost of a hotel”
Would you rent your holiday home to the clumsy and accident prone Grizwolds - Clark, Ellen, Audrey, Rusty and cousin Eddie?
Our feedback from clients over the years is that many of you have rented to families just like the Griswolds.
Here are some of the outcomes from those rentals:
- Guests tripping down stairs, slipping by the pool and falling off bikes – all resulting in injuries
- Holidaymakers who have slipped in the shower and pulled down the curtail rail whilst trying to steady themselves, puncturing a hole in the wall
- Electric shocks from appliances
- Broken washing machines, dishwashers, DVD players and a damaged TV – caused by a flying Wii controller
- Children drawing with felt tip pens on sofas
- Broken beds and furniture
- Fires caused by candles, over loaded log fires and bbq’s
- Sewage leakage caused by blocked toilets – usually nappies
- Soiled carpets and mattresses caused by pets and humans
- Guests who take things home with them, intentionally or not – although it can be hard to prove unless it has been spotted immediately on departure
- Malicious damage caused by guests who have had a domestic dispute or invited friends round and things have gotten out of hand
- Guests who refuse to leave
- A witchcraft/devil worshiping ceremony during Halloween, where guests left a pig’s head in a coffin – thankfully a one off
